Our Daily Bread

God has limitless ways of reaching people. So if you feel that you don’t have the ability to reach others for Christ, think about 76-year-old Ethel Hatfield. Desiring to serve her Lord, she asked her pastor if she could teach a Sunday school class. He informed her that he thought she was too old! She went home heavy-hearted and disappointed.

Then one day as Ethel was tending her rose garden, a Chinese student from the nearby university stopped to comment on the beauty of her flowers. She invited him in for a cup of tea. As they talked together, she had the opportunity to tell him about Jesus and His love. He returned the next day with another student, and that was the beginning of Ethel’s ministry.

Ethel was delighted to share the gospel of Christ with these students, because she knew He has the power to change lives. His gospel “is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Rom. 1:16).

Precisely because of Ethel’s age, Chinese students listened to her with respect and appreciation. When she died, a group of 70 Chinese believers sat together at her funeral. They had been won to Christ by a woman who was thought to be too old to teach a Sunday school class! —Vernon C Grounds

Taking pictures!

Author: Kevin and Corrie  //  Category: Uncategorized

Digital cameras are the in thing right now. A digital camera can be a great way to capture pictures of the kids playing at the park. They can also be a great way to capture pictures of the kids opening Christmas presents.

Sometimes you find yourself in need of taking a picture and needing to know if it is good right now. You can’t wait to get the film developed. You need it now. That’s when a digital camera comes in handy.

Another great thing about a digital camera is the fact that you don’t have to buy film. Film can be so expensive and then you have to pay to have the pictures developed. With a digital camera all you have to do is make sure you have batteries. You can get the pictures developed or you can download them to your computer. It’s that easy!

We used a digital camera to takes pictures of the crosses on our website. It’s a great way to take pictures of your special items that you want to share with others or to sell. We have also used our digital camera to take pictures of our boys to put on our computers and share with others.

A digital camera is a great way to share. Cannon makes it easy to share those favorites pictures. Canon cameras are easy to use as well. Having an easy camera to use makes your pictures that much better!

Make sure you put a digital camera on your Christmas list today! You won’t be sorry you did.

Giving Thanks!

As we examine our blessings and give thanks to God for his wonderful grace, let’s ask why God has blessed us so much. Let’s also remember the primary spiritual principle that God made clear in today’s Scripture and also in his call to Abraham in Genesis 12:2: God’s people are blessed to be a blessing. Let’s make sure we are not just recipients of God’s blessings. Let’s commit to be conduits of those blessings to others.

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

How to Share the Christmas Story with Children in 4 Easy Steps

Author: Kevin and Corrie  //  Category: Uncategorized

At this time of year, children all over the world are making wish lists and hoping Santa Claus will stuff their stockings with the latest and greatest toys and gadgets. They think back to the joys of last Christmas when all them dreams came true and they’re waiting with anticipation for Christmas morning to arrive.

But how many children know the story of the first Christmas – the night Jesus was born?

My own children are no exception. My oldest son has a wish list two pages long! It’s obvious that he has embraced the commercialism of this season. But I want him to embrace the holiness of this season as well.

So, I grabbed my Bible and outlined four lessons I can share with my children as we lead up to Christmas day. We’re going to cover one lesson a week.

1. The Angels Foretell Jesus’ Birth:
Tell about God sending the Angel Gabriel to Mary to tell her the Holy Spirit would cover her and she would bare a son and name Him Jesus. (Luke 1:26-38) Also tell how an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him about the expected birth of Jesus. (Matthew 1:18-25)

2. Jesus is Born:
This is a good place to discuss why Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem and why there was no room in the “hotels”. Share how Mary gave birth in the stable and placed the baby Jesus in a manger. (Luke 2:1-7)

3. The Shepherds:
Share how the angel appeared to the shepherds in the field and told them about the birth of the Savior. This is a beautiful passage to read directly from the Bible to your children. (Luke 2:8-20)

4. The Three Wisemen:
Discuss the three Magi from the east who came baring gifts for the baby Jesus. Depending on the age of your children, you can add the details of King Herod and his plot to kill Jesus to protect his reign as King. (Matthew 2:1-12)

After completing these four lessons, my prayer is that my children (and yours!) will have a better understanding and in-depth knowledge of the true meaning of Christmas.

Thanksgiving and Giving Thanks

Author: Kevin and Corrie  //  Category: Uncategorized

Thanksgiving can be a very special time of year for families. We all get together in one spot and celebrate together. We tend to eat and remorse about our lives. We have a chance to catch up on the news, and see the ones we love. We have a chance to play games and share stories.

During this time of year I feel it is important to remember to give thanks. We have a tradition in our family that we take the time to pray about the things we are thankful for. I always try to remember to tell my girls that they have so much to be thankful. They have a roof over their head, clothes on their back, food in their tummy, friends and family that love them to pieces. These are things that we sometimes take for granted. Sometimes we get so caught up in the material things in life that we forget to be thankful for what we have. During this time of year I try to teach my girls that there are families without homes or money to put food on the table. We need to remember to thank God in our prayers for the things he has provided for us.

There is so much to be thankful for this time of year we need to show our thanks to others open a door for someone, say a few kind words to a stranger, brighten someone day by going out of your way to be nice to them, and it will make your day nicer too. During the holiday season we all tend to be in a rush to buy, buy, buy, that we forget to give thanks. Doing things for others reminds us to give thanks for all that we have. Also if your kids see you doing things for others then you will be an example for them. This will help teach them to be responsible, generous, loving individuals.

Remember to take a few minutes this year to teach our children to be thankful for the things they are already have like friends, family, house to live, food in their belly, and clothes on their back. Take the time to bake cookies with the kids for that special teacher and their friends. Remember to give those special people a gift. During this time year all kids tend to want, want, want, and we need to remember to teach them to be thankful for what they already have in life.

Proverbs 24:30-34

Author: Kevin and Corrie  //  Category: Uncategorized

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

The Two Most Important Commandments – Love

Author: Kevin and Corrie  //  Category: Uncategorized

Love is mentioned well over 350 times in the Bible. I’m sure God must be trying to tell us something. We will start our study with Matthew 22:37-38; And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the most important and first commandment.

I am sure that we have all heard this verse many times in our Christian lives. But, do we really get it? How do we love God? Why should we love God? Let’s explore How to love God today, and tomorrow we’ll get into why.

How Do We Love Him?

It is very simply stated by Jesus in John 14:15, If you really love me, you will keep (obey) my commands. As simple as it sounds….it seems to be a very difficult task….or is it? Well, yes and no. If we study the Word, get it into our hearts and minds; it is easier to submit to the Holy Spirit…

However, when we fill our minds with the world, i.e.,

Soap Operas – which encourage adultery, lust, impurity, fornication, lies, deceit, and many other sinful desires.

I struggled with these for years. I didn’t just watch one…not even just one channel. I would watch one channel and tape another. I was watching six different daytime dramas and several evening ones. I eventually cut back and convinced myself that was good enough. But, no, God wanted me to lay them all down. My mind had become so absorbed with this unrealistic, ungodly world. I didn’t want to let go. Of course I eventually did…not without a fight though. The enemy was on full attack mode when I decided to submit to the Lord (obey His commands). I kid you not my TV would just turn on at the precise moment, my VCR would start taping when I didn’t set it to, and the grocery store checkout…It was ugly. I didn’t give up…and now I am FREE!
